P. Vinayagamurthi is the Head of Department of Costume Design and Fashion at Sri Jayendra Saraswathy Maha Vidhyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore. He has spent over 24 years in the industy and his experience includes garment pattern development and industrial engineering. He also has 12 years of experience in Academic. He currently pursues his PhD in Textile Technology at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He has a keen interest in developing industrially relevant applications for pattern development. He has published 5 articles in National and 2 in International Journals to his credit and has presented 5 papers in National and 2 in International Conferences. Dr. S. Kavitha, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Home Science, Mother Teresa Women’s University. She has a doctorate in Textiles and Clothing and her work is on Textile finishing and Medical Textiles. She has 15 years of teaching and two years of industrial experience. Her areas of special interest are Specialty textiles, apparel designing, surface ornamentation and apparel manufacturing. She has organized and conducted workshops, training programs, short term courses and intercollegiate fest. She participated and presented papers in National and International conferences / seminars and published research papers in reputed journals. D. Gopalakrishnan is an M.Tech (Textile Chemistry), M.Sc. (Costume Design & Fashion) and MBA (Technology Management) qualified Textile Technologist. Currently, working as Project staff at Department of Fashion Technology, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has 7 years of consolidated teaching experience in various levels of educational institutions and 5 years of industrial experience. He has published various research papers in journals of repute. He has also published five books.

Finishing is a series of processing operations applied to a textile material to improve its appearance, handle and functional properties. The present book “Textile Finishing: Basic Concepts and Application” is specially designed to meet the requirements of students persuing diploma and degree courses in textile institutions. The first chapter of the book covers the classification of finishing of textile fabric and also focuses on important chemicals used in textile finishing. The second chapter covers mechanical finishing as well as heat setting and other treatments. Information on functional finishing with a unique approach to understand about finishing is described in chapter third. The fourth chapter includes special purpose finishes and also highlights in silicones for multifunctional finishing, micro / macro/ nano finishing and water repellent finishing. The fifth chapter examines the modern finishing technology and systems, which describes the process of material development and the different stages of application and ends with a review of the mechanisms.
