About The Book

Plant Cell Physiology refers to the technique of growing plant cells, tissues, organs, seeds or other plant parts in a sterile environment on a nutrient medium. The cultured cells and tissue can take several pathways to produce a complete plant. Among these, the pathways that lead to the production of true-to-type plants in large numbers are the popular and preferred ones for commercial multiplication. The following terms have been used to describe various pathways of cells and tissue in culture. Plant cells are generally larger than animal cells. While animal cells come in various sizes and tend to have irregular shapes, plant cells are more similar in size and are typically rectangular or cube shaped. A plant cell also contains structures not found in an animal cell. Some of these include a cell wall, a large vacuole, and plastids. Plastids, such as chloroplasts, assist in storing and harvesting needed substances for the plant. It is hoped that this book will be of greater use for the students, teachers and researchers of botany, agriculture, plant science and other related discipline.
