About The Book

Brucellosis is one of the world's major zoonoses that still are of animal health, public health and economic concern in many parts of the world. In addition to its significant zoonotic impact on human health, brucellosis in livestock is of considerable concern to the sustainable economy and food security of farming communities in India. Though brucellosis is endemic in India, often remains a neglected disease because of the lack of awareness regarding the nature and magnitude of the zoonotic risk of it. As veterinary science has a long and distinguished history of contributing to the maintenance and promotion of public health, an effort to enrich knowledge and understanding of brucellosis has been taken through this publication. The book, Brucellosis: A Zoonotic Disease, has been written by well-known Brucella experts. The book covers all aspects of brucellosis including different species of Brucella involve in the causation of the disease, epidemiology, disease manifestations in various species of animals and humans, molecular pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and control of the disease. Since the disease remains undiagnosed, this book also reviews the advanced diagnostic techniques include PCR, qPCR and serological tests for the detection of brucellosis in various species of livestock and humans. The book also has given emphasis on brucellosis control concepts that can be adapted to the Indian situation. This book will be a valuable desk top reference for professionals in veterinary medicine, medicine, public health, and diagnostic laboratories and it will be especially helpful for those who are not experts in the field. This book is an essential reading for everyone having an interest in Brucella and brucellosis.
