Author Profile

Prof. C. Swaminathan with a first class academic career, had his bachelors and Masters in Agriculture from the reputed Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He is one among the top ten in the country to receive Doctorate in Forestry from Forest College and Research Institute, TNAU as early as in 1996. He has been serving TNAU in various capacities at different colleges and Research Stations since 1988. Presently, he is holding the position of Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy, Agricultural College & Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu . Dr. M.R. Nandhakumar, Senior Research Fellow (Agronomy) is working in Department of Crop Physiology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has obtained M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D with specialization in Agronomy from TNAU, Coimbatore. He has received best oral and poster presentation awards in national level conferences. He has published 9 research papers and 3 popular articles.

About The Book

The book contains 16 chapters beginning with Introduction, meaning, history of Vrikshayurveda, heritage of Indian system of agriculture and Indigenous Technical Knowledge. Subsequently a review article on Vrikshyurveda farming is presented in length. The crop quality aspects like physiological parameters, food grain quality, healthy foods for happy living are nicely discussed. The crop production and management aspects viz., weed management, seed fortification and seed germination, soil fertility & nutrient management, Soil microbial studies, plant extracts for pest and disease management, yield and yield parameters are discussed based on the practical nowledhe gained. A chapter on vrikshyurvedic farming protocols for in crops is interesting for follow up action. Other two chapters on secondary metabolites of plant origin based on the literatures and reference materials and on trees and plants used in vrikshayurvedic farming are neatly presented.
