Dr. Ashok Aggarwal is currently working as Professor of Botany and teaches Plant Pathology, Mycology and Microbiology at the Department of Botany, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, where he has been a faculty member for the last 30 years. He is also a member of several scientific organizations and has published more than 180 research papers and review articles in reputed journals of high impact factors. He has authored/edited 5 books. Dr. Aggarwal has guided 10 M.Phil and 20 Ph.D. students on diverse aspects of mycorrhizal fungi.
Dr. Kuldeep Yadav is working as Assistant Professor at Department of Botany, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra since 2014. He has done M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.
He has contributed extensively in the field of Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Mycology. He has published more than 50 research papers in both international/national peer reviewed journals and has also authored three book chapters.
About The Book
Arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi are obligate root symbionts that are present in most terrestrial ecosystem and establish a mutualistic symbiosis with several plant species around the world. The use of biofertilizers as a source of plant nutrients for more sustainable agriculture practices involves a large number of microorganisms including AM fungi which have potential to enhance productivity in combination with a reduction in application of fertilizer. Mycorrhizas are an essential below-ground component in the establishment and sustainability of plant communities but thorough knowledge is required to have maximum benefits from these microorganisms.
The book provides the various functional and potential application of AM fungi including topics such as biodiversity and dynamics of root colonization, phosphorus acquisition by AM Fungi, soil carbon sequestration, alleviation of salt stress, water stress, heavy metal toxicity, in mining site rehabilitation and biocontrol agent.
