Author Profile
Dr. K.B. Hebbar, Currently Head of Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Post Harvest Technology at ICAR-CPCRI, has made significant contribution to the studies on climate change and abiotic stress tolerance of various field and plantation crops. Earlier he was involved in calibration and validation of a simulation model InfoCrop-COTTON, the same was later used to predict the production under future climate. His work on water use efficiency of groundnut was well recognized which led to the development of drought tolerant groundnut varieties. He has published his research findings in reputed national and international journals.
Dr. Soora Naresh Kumar is Principal Scientist at the CESCRA, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, India. He is expert in developing process based simulation models for crops and released InfoCrop V2, 2.1, InfoCrop-COCONUT and VitisMod. He assessed the impacts, adaptation gains and vulnerability of major crops including plantations to climate change in India, which are used in UNFCCC and IPCC reports. He also has developed and implemented adaptation framework in climatically challenged areas. He is consultant to MoEF&CC, GOI; Network Coordinator, ICAR-Network project on climate change (2010-2013) and Member, Wheat Initiative. He published about 100 papers in national and international journals of high repute.
Dr. Pallem Chowdappa received M.Sc. in 1980 from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi, Ph.D in 1985 from Mangalore University, Mangalore, Karnataka. He became Director, ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod in September, 2014. Dr. Chowdappa is specialized in molecular plant pathology. He attended international training program on 'Oomycetes bioinformatics' at Virginia Tech, USA in 2014. Dr. Chowdappa was awarded DFID fellowship for Post-Doctoral research at CABI Bioscience, UK in 1998. Dr.Chowdappa has published more than 120 research papers in leading national and international journals, 12 books, 35 technical bulletins, 42 book chapters and 5 experimental manuals.
About The Book
Plantation crops play an important role in the livelihood security of millions of farmers. However, they are predominantly grown in economically and ecologically vulnerable zones. Being perennial in growth pattern, plantation crops are exposed to climatic stresses and experience climate change in their life cycle. Thus, it becomes important to understand the effects of climate change on plantations and develop adaptation strategies. This book summarizes the information on plantation crops in climate change context, apart from providing adaptation options and mitigation potential of plantation crops in lucidly written 15 chapters by the domain experts. It is hoped that this book will be useful to all the stakeholders involved in plantation research, development, extension and policy planning besides students and all those involved in assessing the impacts and developing adaptation and mitigation strategies for improving plantation productivity in changing climates.
