About The Book

"The Butterflies in Assam: Diversity and Ecology," provides an in depth exploration the structural characteristics of butterflies, the diversity including 32 species protected under IWPA, 1972 found in both urban and fringe areas of the forests of Assam, and their ecological importance. Authored by experts in entomology, this book is tailored for students and researchers in Zoology, Life Sciences, and Environmental Biology. The evolutionary perspective of butterflies in the book is presented through the lens of insect fossil history, convergent evolution, and co-evolution. It focuses particularly on the co-evolution of insects with the flourishing flowering plants along with the geological time scale. Understanding the structural features of butterflies is emphasized as essential for accurate identification and appreciation of their diversity. The book provides detailed information on the structural characteristics of various butterfly groups, presented in a way that is accessible even to readers without a background in entomology. This makes it a valuable resource for a wider audience interested in biodiversity. The identification keys are provided carefully to be useful in inventorization of new species or infra-species in the region. The book also covers various aspects of butterfly habits, habitats, ecological interactions highlighting their values in sustainable ecosystem. The methods in studying butterflies are presented in easy to comprehend manner. The book is designed to serve as an important resource for those interested in utilising butterflies to promote ecosystem sustainability and development, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical insights.
