Dr. S.M. Ghawade has been engaged in teaching of various courses to Undergraduate and
Post graduate, at College of Agriculture and College of Horticulture, Akola, respectively, during 2001 to 2012. He has published more than 55 research papers in Journals of national and international repute, 87 popular articles in different magazines, news papers, contributed 2 chapters in books on Spice crops. He wrote three booklets in English and three in Marathi on various aspects of Horticulture. He had also published twenty seven leaflets on sustainable production technologies of various vegetables with University publication numbers in local language for the immediate benefit to the farmers of the region. He was honored by prestigious K.G. Joshi cash prize award with the hands of Hon'ble M.S. Swaminathan, “Father of green revolution” in India, during 2015. This award was given to him for special efforts of horticultural scientist for the development of production technology in seed spices like Ajwain, Fennel, Coriander and Cumin in western and central zone of Vidarbha. He has guided seventeen post graduate and five Doctoral students in the field of Horticulture and Vegetable Science.
Dr. Sanjula Vilas Bhavar (SMS, Horticulture) born at Vedhe, a small village surrounded by agriculture and forest lands in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. Completed his higher secondary education from the A.L.C.College of Arts and Science, Wada, Palghar district of Maharashtra. His parents belongs to farming background motivated him to pursue undergraduate degree in Horticulture (2009-13) and master's degree (2013-2015) in the discipline of vegetable science from the renowned Agriculture University Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Kokan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli, Dist.Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. His master's research was focused on growth and yield parameters of different okra genotypes. He completed his Ph.D. Horticulture (Vegetable Science) from Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth Akola, Maharashtra. Ph.D. research was focused on introducing kasuri methi at Maharashtra region. For the Ph.D. degree education, he awarded with National Fellowship for higher education, which is given by Government of India. He has cracked two times ARS-NET exam in the discipline of vegetable science. He has published several research papers, popular articles, delivered TV talks, radio talks related to Vegetable science. He has participated and presented papers in various international and national conference, seminars and science congress on horticulture during the year 2015-2018. He worked on different posts as Junior Research Fellow, Senior Research Assistant and Assistant Professor as contractual basis. Currently he is working as Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) of Horticulture at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Khamgaon. Tal. Georai, Dist.Beed, Maharashtra, under Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth Parbhani, Maharashtra.
About The Book
Kasuri Methi (Trigonella Corniculata L.) is one of the important seed spices crop, slightly differ than regular methi (Trigonella foenum – graecium L.) mostly cultivated for its significant flavor and other medicinal properties in its leaves. It is mostly cultivated in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh in India. The reason identified for less area under cultivation of Kasuri methi in state like Maharashtra, distribution chain from producer to consumer through marketing were taken into consideration. In this regards, genesis for the present study was to give the production technology of seed production of kasuri methi to the farmers of the region. We are sure that, this publication shall prove highly useful to various stake holders, such as field functionaries, growers, students and extension workers and who are having interest in (grown) kasuri methi.
