About The Book
Women empowerment is the process in which women elaborate and recreate what it is that they can do and accomplish in a circumstance that they were previously denied. Empowerment can be defined in several ways, however when talking about women empowerment, empowerment means accepting and allowing people (women) who are outside of the decision making process into it. This puts a strong emphasis on participation in political structures and formal decision making and in the economic sphere, on the ability to obtain an income that enables participation in economic decision making. Women’s empowerment is not an add on; rather it is the core of development. This volume of 9 chapters with contributions from academicians, professionals, practitioners, experts and consultant deals with gender mainstreaming, social, political and economic empowerment, empowerment through education and skill development. This book is replete with pan Indian case studies. This book would be useful to development practitioners, scholars, policy makers, administrators and academicians.
