Dr. K. S. Subramanian is presently NABARD Chair Professor at the Department of Nano Science & Technology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Coimbatore, India. He is with the university for more than 30 years involved in teaching, research and extension activities of the university. He did his Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa, Canada, utilizing one of the most prestigious Canadian Commonwealth Scholarships (1993-1998). He has got expertise in the fields of nanotechnology in agriculture and soil biology. He is the Founder Head of the Department of Nano Science & Technology and evolved the research and educational frame works in the sphere of fascinating field of nano-science and nanotechnology suiting to agricultural sciences.
Dr. Subramanian published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and a book on Nanotechnology in Agriculture, participated as a lead speaker in various national and international conferences, visited several countries. He received more than 10 awards and distinctions to his credentials.

This book covers basic concepts and principles of nanotechnology, synthesis of nano-materials by top down (Physical) and bottom up approaches (chemical and biological), properties of nano-materials (physical, mechanical, optical, magnetic and thermal), characterization of nano-materials (size, stability, shape, functional group) using sophisticated equipments, application of nanotechnology in various fields (agriculture, food systems, energy, environment, health sciences) and biosafety of nano-materials (nanotoxicity and assays used for testing the nanotoxicity).
