"Dr. R.R. Sharma, born on March 14, 1962 in Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), Dr. Sharma completed his B.Sc. (Agri.) from HPKV, Palampur during 1983 and Post Graduation from IARI, New Delhi in 1994 and joined as Scientist in the Division of Fruits and Horticultural Technology, IARI, New Delhi in 1997. During his scientific career, he has served several research projects and has been associated with release of mango hybrids like Pusa Arunima, Pusa Surya, Pusa Lalima, Pusa Shresth, Pusa Pitamber etc., and standardized several fruit production and post harvest technologies. He is a prolific writer and has published 40 research articles in International journals, 55 in National journals, 160 popular articles in different magazines, and 25 book chapters. He has also authored 8 books on different aspects of fruit production. He has delivered several radio and T.V. talks on different aspects of fruit production and post harvest management of horticultural crops. He has received several honours and awards, of which, Dr. R.N. Singh award (twice) of IARI, New Delhi, Dr Rajinder Prasad award of ICAR (twice), New Delhi are worth mentioning. He has served as International Mango Registrar and Education award of MHRD, Govt. of India for about 5 years (1999-2004). He has been honoured with Himachal Shri Award by Govt. of Himachal Pradesh in 2008. He has also been honoured by International journals like Scientia Horticulturae (The Netherlands), International Journal of Fruit Science (U.K.), American Journal of Plant Sciences (US), Journal of Food Processing and Technology (US), and Stewart Postharvest Reviews (UK) by including him as a Member, Editorial Board. He is a reviewer of several International and national journals, and Chief Editor of International Journal of Processing and Postharvest Technology, India. <BR> Dr. Hare Krishna, born on June 28, 1981, Dr Hare Krishna graduated from the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, B.H.U., Varanasi and completed his M. Sc. and Ph. D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He has got an outstanding academic career. With his experience and vision, he contributed significantly to address the major obstacles of commercial micropropagation. Based on his work, a protocol for bio-hardening of tissue culture-raised plantlets was developed, for which he got IARI Gold Medal in 2004. He was invited for the creation of a Scirus Topic page on Mango Tissue Culture for the scientific community run by Elsevier, The Netherlands. He joined as Scientist in 2006 at Vivekanand Institute of Hill Agriculture, Almora, later transferred to Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture-Regional Station, Mukteshwar. Since 2010, he is working as a Senior Scientist at Central Institute for Arid Horticulture, Bikaner. His research works are primarily focused on physiological understanding of the problems of horticultural crops. The book entitled ‘Fruit Production: Major Fruits’ contains the information on scientific cultivation of 15 major fruit crops grown in our country. Although, plenty of literature is available on various aspects of fruit production in books, research journals, popular articles and magazines. However, to keep update of fast developing information, it is important to compile it in the form of a book. The uniqueness of this book lies in the fact that, it contains latest information on nutritive value, area and production, varietal wealth, propagation techniques, production technology, plant protection and value addition very well supported by good quality photographs and tables. It is hoped that book will draw out a faithful response in students, teachers, researchers, extension personnel and fruit growers.
