Dr K.L. Chadha (Padma Shri Awardee) is currently President of The Horticultural Society of India as also Adjunct Professor (Hort.) at IARI. He received his B.Sc. (Agri.) and M.Sc. (Hort.) degrees from Panjab University, Chandigarh and Ph.D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He has served in various capacities at IARI, Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Central Mango Research Station, Lucknow. He was the Director, IIHR, Bangalore, Horticulture Commissioner and Executive Director, National Horticulture Board, Govt. of India; Deputy Director General (Hort.), ICAR and ICAR-National Professor (Hort.) at IARI. <br/> Dr Nazeer Ahmed, Former Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar, is currently Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, J&K. Dr Ahmed served in various capacities as Scientist, Senior Scientist, Associate Director Research, Professor and Head, Dean Agriculture and also as Director Resident Instruction cum Dean Post Graduate Studies at SKUAST-K. During his 30 years of service, he has contributed significantly as a teacher, researcher, extension worker and administrator. Dr Ahmed is recipient of several prestigious awards and honours including Rajbhasha Gaurav Award, Dr R.S. Paroda Award, Dr M.H. Marigowda National Endowment Award, Dr Kirti Singh Gold Medal and Vijay Shree Award.<br/> Dr S.K. Singh is presently Principal Scientist & Professor at the Division of Fruits and Horticultural Technology, IARI, New Delhi. He received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Horticulture from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and joined Agricultural Research Service of ICAR in 1994. He is serving IARI for the last 20 years and is involved in research & teaching and has developed improved varieties of grape. He underwent post-doctoral training of Tropical Fruit Crops Biotechnology at the University Florida, USA under DBT Overseas Fellowship programme. <br/> Dr P. Kalia is presently the Coordinator of School of Horticultural Sciences and Head Division of Vegetable Science at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He has significantly contributed in the field of vegetable breeding and developed 28 varieties/hybrids of different vegetable crops. He pioneered popularising exotic vegetable crops e.g., broccoli and leek by developing indigenous varieties for diversification and nutrition. Dr Kalia is recipient of N. N. Mohan Memorial Gold Medal, Commonwealth scholarship,<br/> Dr Kirti Singh Gold Medal and Himachal Gaurav Awards. He is also fellow of Horticultural Society of India, Indian Society of Vegetable Science and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS).

About The Book

The present book is a compendium of 31 Lead Papers presented by R&D workers/ experts from different institutions during the four day National Conference on Temperate Fruits and Nuts held from November 6-9, 2015 by the Horticultural Society of India, New Delhi in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute for Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar, J&K. It covers status, achievements and future R&D strategies on different crops and issues concerning Temperate Horticulture vis-a-vis global advancements. The issues covered range from research needs, innovative technologies, genetic resource management & crop improvement, disease and pest management, mechanization, pre- and post harvest technology and marketing & trade.
