Dr. H.C. Lakshman obtained his M.Sc., in 1977, from Bangalore University, Bangalore, Karnataka, Ph.D. in Botany, during 1996, from Karnatak University, Dharwad, Karnataka, India. Presently he is working as a senior Professor at P.G. Department of Studies in Botany, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Karnataka since 2004 to till date. He served as a Chairman, P.G. Department of Studies in Botany, K. U. Dharwad during 2009-2011. Dr. Lakshman successfully guided 29 students for Ph.D. and M.Phil. degree.

Phytoremediation is described as a natural process carried out by plants and trees in the cleaning up and stabilization of contaminated soils, sediments and ground water or it is described as the use of vegetation for in situ treatment of contaminated soils, sediments and water.
